COLONEL (MoVAC) CYRUS K BOONE was the oldest child of Herman M. and Faith R. Boone. He was born August 31, 1900 in Kansas City, Missouri. His early years were split between his home on Kansas City, his fathers pent house apartments in St. Louis, and his grandfather's homestead in Portland, Maine. His grandfather taught at a private school. His father was in the Transportation and Real Estate business. His connectionas and holdings in railroads, early aircraft companies in St. Louis and Kansas City and engine manufacturing. After attending the Rosencrans Charter School in St. Louis, Cyrus Kendall Boone was appointed to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, where he graduated in 1922, finishing 72nd in a class of 421 graduates.
Stationed at the Naval Air Station at Quonset Point RI, Commander Boone was involved in early trials and testing of prototype aircraft and armaments from the major aircraft companies in the United States. Boeing, McDonnel, Grumman and Hughes all developed early prototype aircraft for the US Navy.
